Definition

A high-level contact is someone who holds a position of authority at the national or international level.

Discussion

Establish contacts with a broad range of high-level government officials, whatever their department. This helps establish an atmosphere of trust and credibility. Such contact will continue to be of benefit as people change responsibilities or location.

Tip:

You will probably have to establish relationships with lower-level personnel within the government or agency in order to have an opportunity to make high-level contacts.

Examples

Here are some examples of high-level contacts:

  • People in cabinet level positions such as Minister of Education or Minister of Foreign Affairs
  • Vice-ministers
  • National representatives for UN agencies
  • Ambassadors
  • Department heads within a ministry
